“It's with great pleasure that I welcome you to my humble abode!” said he, whose hands shall not be described for matters of hygiene, drawing a timid smile already rotten by smoke.
“Humble indeed...” mumbled Gentleman Goldblood, as he picked up one of the little dolls from the table and gazed at it with disgust, then at the man who stood beside him, with the same expression.
“Would you care for some tea or perhaps a small liqueur?” asked the man, holding his hands together and rubbing them in an awkward manner.
“No, thank you! You see, my thirst has already been quenched on my way here...” Goldblood replied abruptly. “I visit you on a matter of business only, as you might have guessed... You see, I have been searching for a man...”
The man gently raised his eyes and glanced at Goldblood's face, whilst straightened up his body.
“I wonder if you would be kind enough to provide me with any information that could prove to be useful on how to get ahold of this man, for whom I have been searching...”
“Most certainly, Sire! Just tell me about this man and you shall have your information!” cheerfully answered the man, almost in a jump.
“You see, it has been almost five days since I started this ever-so-tiresome pursuit, so far I have not reached any success... Quite an ordeal, I would say! I have wandered through every corner of this god forsaken town, only to find myself once more empty-handed! It is truly disappointing to face such failure. Disappointing indeed... Well, you see, this man I have been searching...”
“Tell me more about him!”
“I have visited every establishment and tavern in town; one can only imagine all the filth I have passed through. Such filth, I tell you, disgusting! No living soul should have to endure living in such a place as this town. Everywhere I visit is the same; they are all filled with this foul stench! Every single place has been branded with it. Disgusting! But let us not stray from the matter at hand, this man for whom I have been searching...”
“Yes?..”
“How can he be put into words? This is a delicate affair, you see, it is most certainly difficult to describe... But still, one cannot discard the relevancy it bears to me... I wonder if it is possible for you to achieve a full perception of this fact... You see, this man I have been searching...”
“Please, go on.”
“Perhaps I should tell you of the reasons I seek this already not-so-known individual... No, it is not safe. The reasons shall remain unrevealed to you. It is not safe, you see. I have been told that you are the best one to help in my pursuit. 'Look for the man who lives in the small house beyond the river, he might be able to help,' they told me. So I did. Such filth, this river... Disgusting, utterly disgusting! Never have I seen such filth! All for this man, this man for whom I have been searching...”
“Just a moment, Sire, let me light a smoke,” and he picked a long pipe that lay on the window lattice, along with ashes of tobacco.
As the man took his time looking for a match, Goldblood started to roam around the room and stroke his goatee uneasily. “How is it possible that this peasant dared to interrupt me, Goldblood?!” he thought. “Look at this place! Such filth, such filth! I hope this vile stench does not defile me.”
“You see, my pursuit is of extreme importance, I have not a minute to waste... Not only is it relevant to me, but even, perhaps, to you and everyone in town. Such importance it bears, that it would not be advisable to stray from such quest. Let us not divert our attention... It is most important! For the sake of all of us! Do you understand its relevance? Most probably not... It is something a lesser mind like yours is not likely to understand. Only I am able to hold such a profound understanding of this complex matter. You see, this man I have been searching...”
“Just get to the point, already!”
“What?! How... how... How dare you?! Do you know who I am? I do not have to withstand such insolence! And from a filthy peasant like you! To hell with you and all this filth! Scum!”
Goldblood stomped his way through the door and as he drifted away his voice could still be heard from the inside: “Such filth, such filth!”
